After a successful career in IT and training, Michael Washburn decided it was time to branch out on his own and follow his passion for coffee. Deciding that starting small was best; Michael opened Krafty Koffee drive-thru stand located in Lexington at 261 Charter Oak Rd. in front of Krafty Draft Brew Pub, initially serving coffee and espresso drinks from coffee beans purchased from local Carolina roasters. However, Michael was left disappointed by the lack of variety and options available.

Michael started roasting at a friend’s house using the old fashion method of pan and fire on a stove top. He fell in love with the process but found that there was a lack of consistency in stove top roasting.
